Understanding LASIK: The Gold Standard in Vision Correction

You may have heard it called "LASIX," but the correct term is LASIK (short for Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis). It is the most popular vision correction surgery in the world because it is remarkably precise, virtually painless, and most patients achieve crisp, clear vision by the very next day.

How the Procedure Works:

Creating the Flap: Using a specialized laser or instrument, the surgeon creates a microscopic, hinged flap on the surface of the cornea.

Reshaping the Vision: The flap is gently folded back, and a "cool" ultraviolet laser (an excimer laser) removes tiny amounts of tissue to reshape the cornea with incredible accuracy.

Natural Healing: The flap is laid back in place, acting as a natural bandage that begins healing immediately without the need for stitches.
